3 Key Takeaways from SuiteWorld17

As you may be aware, NetSuite’s annual conference SuiteWorld took place last week in Las Vegas, NV. There was a new look and feel to this year’s conference with the new Oracle branding on all signage and Jim McGeever replaced Zach Nelson to deliver the main keynote address. It was during this keynote that Mark Hurd, CEO of Oracle, confirmed that oracle would continue to run NetSuite as a global business unit within Oracle and would help the world’s number 1 cloud based ERP system to grow and dominate its market share.
From Jim McGeever’s opening address to the NetSuite partners on Monday April 24th, here are my 3 key takeaways:
1.       NetSuite is Going Global
With the help and support of Oracle, NetSuite is going to put a huge push on growing and dominating the worldwide Cloud ERP marketplace. This year NetSuite has plans to expand into 30 more countries including Germany, the Benelux countries and Scandinavia to name a few.

2.       NetSuite is now a complete Unified Suite
With the introduction of SuitePeople, NetSuite adds HCM to its existing portfolio of ERP, CRM, eCommerce (SuiteCommerce) and Omni-Channel solutions. Adding a HCM solution now gives NetSuite a complete suite of business software solutions to all organizations.

3.       SuiteSuccess
SuiteSuccess was the big buzzword at SuiteWorld17. According to NetSuite ‘SuiteSuccess is the culmination of a multi-year transformation effort to combine the NetSuite unified suite, 20 years of industry leading practices, a new customer engagement model and business optimization methods into a unified, industry cloud solution. SuiteSuccess is engineered to solve unique industry challenges that historically have limited a company’s ability to grow, scale and adapt to change.’ Also, according to NetSuite, following the best business practices of SuiteSuccess, new customer implementations should go live within the first 100 days.

B2BGateway, a Built for NetSuite solution, has been NetSuite’s EDI partner for over 15 years and provides cloud based, fully integrated EDI solutions to NetSuite users across the globe. Oracle and NetSuite: A match made in heaven - but what does the future hold?

Oracle announced on July 28th its intention to purchase NetSuite for $9.3 billion subject to regulatory approval. NetSuite is a leading cloud based ERP/CRM/eCommerce software business suite that was founded in 1998 by Evan Goldberg and has been to the forefront of financial cloud technology since its inception. But what does the future hold for both organizations and why did Oracle feel the need to purchase NetSuite?

The Cloud
Oracle has been shifting aggressively to the cloud over the past two years as its more traditional client/server based enterprise solutions have become less popular with customers. Indeed, its revenue mix has shown just how important cloud is becoming to Oracle’s future. NetSuite as a pure bred cloud company will help Oracle get a great share of the cloud driven marketplace.
SMB Marketplace
NetSuite will help Oracle strengthen its position in the ever growing small to medium marketplace, a sector that Oracle has largely ignored up to now. It hopes the NetSuite acquisition will help Oracle to reach smaller companies that can't afford Oracle's traditional high-cost, high-maintenance product.

International Reach
In NetSuite, Oracle saw a cloud company whose sales of e-commerce and manufacturing software to smaller businesses were stalling as it tried to move into international markets. Oracle will use its branding and international knowledge to help NetSuite overcome international obstacles.

Competition.
If Oracle had not purchased NetSuite, chances are that a rival such as Microsoft, SAP, Salesforce or Sage may have done so.

NetSuite Two-Tier Strategy
Oracle’s powerful databases will help NetSuite’s Two Tier Strategy of going to market, i.e. where multi-national corporations use cloud solutions such as NetSuite for their subsidiaries and international markets, but feed all the data back to the head office main ERP system such as SAP.

Will NetSuite remain as a separate entity?
Oracle’s Mark Hurd has stated that they will continue to run NetSuite as a separate company, but if the previous PeopleSoft acquisition is anything to go by, it may not be long before Oracle turns NetSuite into a complete Oracle offering which may mean price increases for existing NetSuite clients.

B2BGateway, a ‘Built for NetSuite’ solution, has been NetSuite’s EDI partner since 2001, back when they were known as NetLedger, and we wish them the very best for the future. If you would like to know more about B2BGateway’s cloud based, fully integrated EDI solutions for NetSuite users please email Sales@B2BGateway.Net or visit https://www.b2bgateway.net/edi-for-netsuite/

Modern EDI – It’s no longer just X12, EDIFACT or Tradacoms!

In today’s modern world of integrated data communication, the term EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) no longer represents just X12, EDIFACT or Tradacoms file exchanges, but rather has become a much more generic term for the exchange of all business data supported by an ‘Any to Any’ integration. In fact, in today’s terms modern EDI represents a completely integrated communication hub for all parties in the supply chain.

While the traditional EDI data formats of X12 et al are still supported, and indeed still widely used in retail, wholesale distribution, manufacturing and logistics industries, modern EDI will also support the majority of additional file formats such as XML, CSV and flat files. Modern EDI will also be built on SaaS/cloud based platforms allowing much more flexibility, scalability and value for money to the end user.

The modern EDI provider will also be able to support API integration in tandem with traditional EDI ports. Therefore, the modern EDI provider becomes a complete, integrated communication hub to support all the needs of the end user, be it the ordering of goods from a factory, selling those goods to traditional box-stores and the modern online marketplace, selling their own goods and services on their own shopping cart and integrating with a 3PL for the storage and shipping of the aforementioned goods.

Dreamforce 2015: Dream or Nightmare?

I must admit, that being a Dreamforce virgin, I was quite apprehensive about attending this year’s Dreamforce show in San Francisco. To the uninitiated, Dreamforce is the annual Salesforce user and partner conference and this year over 170,000 people were registered to attend in downtown San Francisco. I have been to large shows many times before with up to 12,000-15,000 attendees, but Dreamforce is over tenfold this number. So much so that all hotels downtown were completely booked out and Salesforce had to hire a cruise ship to dock at one of the San Francisco piers for the week to provide additional accommodation to attendees.

With these kind of mind blowing numbers: How would we literally walk the floor? Is it possible to get lunch with so many people? Would the afterhours social scene, where we tend to do a lot of business, be impossible? Will it be possible to speak to anyone at their booths?

Unfortunately form the moment we signed up to attend, the signs seemed ominous – not a hotel room downtown to be had for love nor money. We ended up getting a hotel in Milbrae out by the airport. Next problem – how to get in and out of downtown from Milbrae? We hired a car but traffic on the 101 and the cost of parking was becoming a nightmare. However, once we landed and took up residency at our hotel we quickly realized that the car was superfluous to our needs and that the BART rail system would be more than adequate at a fraction of the cost of car hire and parking charges.

With the car dilemma over, things were quickly picking up. The BART system worked a dream for early morning starts and late night returns, the queues for practical functions such as registration, demonstrations and lunch were very comfortable. It was also a plus that the exhibition room floors were well laid out and extremely easy to follow with a lot of booths having their own private meeting rooms for more in-depth discussions.

At B2BGateway, due to the nature of our EDI solution which is predominantly used in Wholesale Distribution and Manufacturing markets, we found it more beneficial to meet the ERP and OMS partners that built their products on the Salesforce platform. It was wonderful to meet with such great organizations as FinancialForce.com, Rootstock, Ascent ERP, Kenandy, Sage and Accounting Seed.

Over the course of the week I must say our nightmare premonitions never came to fruition. The whole show for us was a complete dream and finishing it out with live performances by The Killers and The Foo Fighters was the icing on the cake. Here’s to Dreamforce 2016, hope to see you there!

If you would like to know more about how B2BGateway’s cloud based, fully integrated EDI solutions can work with any ERP system built on the Salesforce platform please visit www.B2BGateway.Net or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net

Managing the Omni-Channel – Hot Topic during SuiteWorld 2015.

Speaking at SuiteWorld, NetSuite’s annual client and partner conference, Branden Jenkins, General Manager for Global Retail at NetSuite, commented on disruption and change and how retailers need to adapt to the new world of omni-channel retail.

According to Jenkins "Retailers need to put systems in place that give them the omni-channel capability”. He believes that the NetSuite eco-system (combination of NetSuite product features and partner add-on features will give NetSuite users a clear lead in the omni-channel market place. NetSuite also introduced their new Point of Sale (PoS) functionality which should greatly enhance the retailers omni-channel approach.

As well getting the product visible and sold through the right channels, the NetSuite user also needs to look closely at a complete and seamless supply chain integration platform. A platform which ties in all the players in the channel from online retail to box store to shopping carts to 3PL providers to drop shippers to manufacturers and more.

The omni-channel approach by NetSuite seems to be working as they were able to announce at SuiteWorld that they have just landed international surfing and clothing company, Billabong as a major new customer. Billabong is starting with NetSuite’s eCommerce platform and says that over time it may also switch its current ERP systems as well.  According to Kadima Lonji, CTO at Billabong, the new NetSuite implementation with enhanced inventory and stock visibility has the potential to deliver Billabong cost savings of $13 million per annum.

If you would like to know more on how B2BGateway’s fully integrated EDI solutions for NetSuite can help your organization handle the disruption of the omni-channel while at the same time enhancing your business call +1 401 491 9595 (NA) / +353 61 708533 (EU) or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net

B2BGateway CEO, Kevin Hoyle, named as a Supply and Demand Chain Executive ‘Pro to Know’ 2015

The leading supply chain publication and industry expert, Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine, has named B2BGateway CEO, Kevin Hoyle as a Supply Chain ‘Pro to Know’ for 2015.

Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine recognizes Provider and Practitioner Professionals in the supply chain marketplace. The ‘Pro’s to Know’ is a listing of individuals from software firms and service providers who have helped their supply chain clients or the supply chain community at large prepare to meet the significant challenges in the year ahead.

Kevin Hoyle founded B2BGateway as a software development organization, Shannon Systems, LLC in Boston in 1999. B2BGateway was the name given to a cloud/SaaS based EDI solution developed by Shannon Systems in the year 2000 that became so popular and synonymous within the industry that the organization now trades as Shannon Systems, LLC dba B2BGateway.

Over the past 15 years EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) has become a standard business requirement in the Wholesale Distribution, Retail, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Government, Third Party Logistics (3PL) and automotive industries. B2BGateway is a natural fit for organizations in these industries that require an efficient, cost-effective, cloud based EDI solution to communicate seamlessly with their trading partners.

By fully integrating the EDI solution to the users Accounting Software/ ERP through cloud based technology, B2BGateway removes the need for the end user to re-key data into their system, thus greatly improving accuracy, increasing labor efficiencies and expediting the ‘order-to-payment’ cycle.

In addition to supporting the North American EDI standard of ANSI X12, B2BGateway also supports all international EDI standards and communication protocols such as EDIFACT, Tradacoms, oioUBL, Odette, XML, VAN, FTPs, AS2, etc..

“It is an honor and a privilege to be recognized as a supply chain ‘Pro to Know’ by industry peers such as Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine”, states Kevin Hoyle, CEO B2BGateway, “When I founded the firm in 1999 I had no idea that it would grow so rapidly and now we have clients in over 30 countries operating in 17 different time zones. 2015 is a going to be a great year for B2BGateway as we introduce many great improvements and are currently constructing a new world headquarters in Rhode Island, USA”.

The essential components required for implementing and running a successful EDI operation.

To implement and run a successful end to end EDI communication with your trading partners, the following five components are essential:

EDI Translation Software: Although the concept of EDI was introduced to have a sole standard for the exchange of electronic data, overtime and across multiple market sectors, many different EDI standards have emerged such as ANSI X12 (predominantly used in North America), EDIFACT (Europe and Automotive sector), Tradacom (UK), Odette and much, much more. In fact within the same standard there are now multiple versions or upgrades, take ANSI X12 version 4010, version 4030 or version 5010 as an example. In order to deal successful and seamlessly with all these standards and versions within standards, it is essential that you have a robust EDI software translator in place.

Data Mapping: Data mapping is the converting of 0information from one location to another. In EDI, data mapping converts a user’s application data into the required EDI file format, and vice versa. Mapping outbound data involves establishing what information from the ERP or accounting software goes where in an EDI file. The data must be properly arranged and formatted so that it conforms to both the EDI standard required and the trading partner’s rules and regulations.

Communication Network: The EDI transaction sets can be transported between trading partners over numerous different methods such as a VAN (Value added Network), AS2, FTP, FTPs, etc. When trading with multiple customers, you will probably need the ability to handle all of the aforementioned communication protocols as different organizations will use different protocols.

Integration: Although there are some stand-alone EDI systems that may suit very small operations or seasonal companies, in order to get the best ROI out of using EDI, any organization should integrate their EDI solution with their back end ERP/Accounting Software/OMS, for example QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, SAP, Aptean, Microsoft Dynamics, Brightpearl, Acumatica, etc.. Integration with back end software removes the need to re-key data, thus providing further automation and reducing errors.

Support: It is one thing to get a good EDI system in place, but yet quite another to make sure that that system runs smoothly 24/7. Any system that does not run 24/7 or is prone to hiccups could be costing your organization new orders and therefore costing you lost income. Having good support will also keep your organization functioning seamlessly as trading partners require system upgrades or new EDI transaction sets to be introduced.

B2BGateway is a full service EDI provider and handles all of the vital components listed above on behalf of thousands of clients worldwide on a daily basis. If you would like to know more about B2BGateway’s full service EDI and automated EDI solutions, please call +1 401 491 9595 (North America)  / +353 61 708533 (Europe) or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net

Can you work with…………? Yes, all we require is import and export functionality, oh and an internet connection!

As a global pioneer in cloud based and fully integrated EDI and automated supply chain technology solutions we are often asked: ‘Can your EDI solutions work with this accounting package, that ERP system, this WMS, that OMS and so on, so forth?’ The list is endless and as paper never refuses ink, or in this case Microsoft Word doesn’t refuse Calibri font, I thought I would spare you from ultimate boredom by trying not to list them all!

The simple, if not somewhat cocky answer, is yes. B2BGateway can usually work with any business software application, subject to 2 provisos (a) has your organizations business application both import and export functionality? and (b) has your organization internet connectivity? If the answer to both (a) and (b) is yes, B2BGateway can provide you with a cloud based, integrated EDI solution!

If you are struggling to find a suitable EDI solution and would like the added benefits that cloud based technology and integration bring, call the B2BGateway sales team today on +1 401 491 9595 or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net to see how we can further help you improve your overall supply chain processes.

Integrate your Omni-Channel Logistics with cloud based EDI solutions from B2BGateway.

To fulfill goods and services for the ever increasing world of Omni-Channel Retail, suppliers have to create excellence in their Omni-Channel Logistics operations. Omni-Channel Retailing is best described by Wikipedia as the evolution of multi-channel retailing, but is concentrated more on a seamless approach to the consumer experience through all available shopping channels, i.e. mobile internet devices, computers, bricks-and-mortar, television, radio, direct mail, catalog and so on. Retailers are meeting the new customer demands by deploying specialized supply chain strategies and software solutions.
The major challenge for suppliers, in order to meet the retailers’ new omni-channel needs, is to get their goods and services to the correct channel as quickly and as accurately as possible and, needless to say,  in the most cost effective manner.
In order to help suppliers achieve excellence in Omni-Channel Logistics, B2BGateway has developed full end to end seamless connectivity between the supplier and all parties in the supply chain from box store retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, etc.) to online retailers (Amazon, Buy.com, etc.), to manufacturers, third party logistics providers (3PL) and even the suppliers own online shopping carts (which may be powered by online platform providers such as 3dcart, Volusion, Magento, etc.).

Through specially developed, cloud based EDI software, B2BGateway’s Omni-Channel Logistics solution fully integrates the suppliers ERP software with all parties in the supply chain, thus allowing fully automated and seamless connectivity for the exchange of all business documentation needed such as Purchase Orders (EDI 850), Invoices (EDI 810), Inventory Updates (EDI 846), Warehouse Shipping Orders (EDI 940), Advanced Shipping Notices (EDI 856) and so forth.

As there is full automation and no need to re-key data, the supplier benefits greatly from increased speed, increased accuracy, greater visibility and reduced labor overheads.

If you would like to learn more about B2BGateway’s fully integrated Omni-Channel Logistics solution please call +1 401-491-9595 or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and EDI

A warehouse management system (WMS) is a software application that supports the day-to-day operations in a warehouse and is a key part of the modern supply chain process. WMS programs enable centralized management of tasks such as tracking inventory levels, receiving, picking, put-away and identifying stock locations.

A WMS monitors the progress of products through the warehouse. It involves the physical warehouse infrastructure, tracking systems, and communication between product stations. More precisely, warehouse management involves the receipt, storage and movement of goods to distribution centers or to a final customer. In today’s modern world, organizations may use multiple levels of warehouses. These may include a central warehouse, regional warehouses (serviced by the central warehouse) and potentially retail warehouses (serviced by the regional warehouses).

Early warehouse management systems could only provide simple storage location functionality. Current WMS applications can be so complex and data intensive that they require a dedicated staff to run them. High-end systems may include tracking and routing technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and voice recognition.

No matter how simple or complex the application is, the goal of a warehouse management system remains the same -- to provide management with the information it needs to efficiently control the movement of materials within a warehouse.

WMS systems may be standalone applications or modules of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.  B2BGateway offers clients fully integrated, cloud based EDI solutions to link their WMS with their ERP or Accounting Software solution. This automates the flow of data between systems and removes the need to re-key data.  This in turn gives the client greater accuracy, reduces charge backs and saves both time and money.

Will EDI work with 'Cloud Based' ERP systems?

As the popularity of cloud based ERP systems such as NetSuite and Intacct continues to surge, we often get the following question from customers who are considering switching to a cloud-based ERP system: Will this affect our capabilities to continue doing EDI with our trading partners?

The short answer is no, it should not. At B2BGateway we have been providing fully-integrated EDI solutions for the leading cloud-based ERP providers such as NetSuite, Intacct and Sage ERP X3 for over a decade. However, like everything else, you will need to do your homework to see if the new cloud-based ERP system you are considering is EDI capable. I would advise finding out the following:

·         Is the new ERP system fully cloud-based, or is it a hosted online version of a current on-premises
      ERP product?

·         Does the cloud based ERP system have both import and export functionality?

·         Will you need to purchase additional EDI modules/connectors from the cloud ERP vendor?

·         Is your current EDI provider capable of working with and integrating the new cloud based ERP
solution? If not, are there other third party EDI providers on the market who can work with the
      new product?

·         Does the cloud-based ERP vendor currently have clients and partners using EDI with their system
     and can you get references?

I would also go to online sites such as LinkedIn to see are there any user groups for the new ERP system. You could post a question amongst users to see if any are currently using EDI and to get their recommendations. For further information on B2BGateway’s EDI solutions, including solutions for cloud-based ERP systems, please visit www.B2BGateway.Net or email Sales@B2BGateway.Net
